Was The Snowman really that bad?

Yes, it was.

Being facetious aside, why was it that bad?

Released in 2017, The Snowman had so much promise. Based on a popular Jo Nesbo novel, the director of Let The Right One In Tomas Alfredson and Michael Fassbender involved, and Martin Scorsese executive producing (not to mention his regular editor Thelma Schoonmaker working on it). So what went wrong?

Well, warning signs were from the getgo; according to reports, at least 10–15% of the film wasn’t complete, therefore leaving important details and characters out of the picture, making it an incoherent mess. Not to mention that the team’s previous movie — 2011’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy — wasn’t that good, and even its biggest admirers may admit that awards hype ate up their judgment. Or maybe this is me projecting on what I think was an awful movie. As you do.

That being said, that is no excuse for how bad The Snowman is; undoubtedly the worst film of 2017 by a long shot — beating such prestigious titles like Split, Justice League and The Mummy to that ‘honour’ — it was more disappointing considering the talent involved. So what happened?
